Subscription Intelligence Lights Up
Subscriptions, Committed, and Insights now populate automatically from your real transactions. Netflix and Spotify land on Subscriptions; rent and utilities on Committed; upcoming bills on Insights.
Drift detection flags stealth price hikes inline — if Netflix bumped you from $14.99 to $18.99 over 18 months, you see "↑ 27%" right next to the merchant name. And under each non-essential subscription, Comma now shows what cancelling it would compound to over 10 years at your FIRE return rate. "Cancel → $2,486 over 10yr" reframes the question from "is this worth $14.99 a month?" to "is this worth $2,486?" — much harder to dismiss.
Every row also gets an Essential / Review / Personal chip you can override yourself, so you decide what counts as a real subscription and what doesn't.
The first sixty seconds of Comma got rebuilt. The onboarding wizard now drops you into a single dashed-border zone with the editorial pitch baked in — "One CSV. 60 seconds. Yours."
The privacy seal got an honest rewrite: "Read locally. Encrypted before sync." The previous "never uploaded" wording was misleading because encrypted blobs do sync for cross-device access. The new wording is precisely true — your CSV is parsed in your browser, encrypted with your password, and only then synced.
Goal-setting moved to the welcome tour's finale, because asking you to plan against data you haven't seen yet was backwards. The tour itself was rewritten in the wizard's editorial voice, so signup-to-tour-end reads as one product, not two.
Top 5 Banks Per Country + Submit Your Bank
Step-by-step CSV export instructions for the top five banks in each of the five supported countries — eighteen new banks added across UK, US, NZ, and Canada. Each entry shows when its export instructions were last verified.
If your bank isn't in the list yet, drag-drop your CSV into the new submission flow and we'll add support. Only the column header row leaves your device — your actual transactions stay in your browser, never uploaded. Opt in to be notified when your bank ships.
The manual column-mapping screen, previously unreachable when auto-detection failed, now surfaces in the Upload Issues section so you can map columns yourself.
Tax Engine Refresh — All Five Locales Current
Every tax engine refreshed to current-year rates across Australia, the UK, NZ, the US, and Canada. AU has the Stage 3+ Phase 2 rate cut baked in for FY2026-27. UK honours the Personal Allowance freeze, with Scottish bands and student-loan thresholds modelled per-year. Canada now surfaces the new CPP2 second additional contribution as its own breakdown line. US California is modelled correctly as a progressive bracket (1% to 12.3%) instead of the flat-9.3% approximation it used to be.
All five engines now have precision tests against published government examples — 274 of them — so the numbers in your dashboard line up with the numbers from your tax authority. Bracket labels no longer drift to "14.499999999999998%" from float precision either.
Two operational fixes alongside: sign-out is instant now (was waiting on a server round-trip), and welcome emails reliably fire on every signup.
Learn Comma — Guided Tour + Every Screen Explained
A guided welcome tour fires for new users — five steps covering Overview, navigation, accounts, and upload. Skip with Escape; replay any time from Settings → Preferences → Onboarding.
Every screen now has an About-this-screen banner with a plain-English summary, common tasks, and one non-obvious tip — purpose-built copy for all 21 tabs, not generic placeholder text. An ⓘ icon next to every page title opens the same explainer as a floating popover, so you can always get help even if you dismiss the banner.
Toast notifications redesigned in the same pass: bottom-right, icon-badged, and colour-coded so they no longer overlap page headers or the AI chat button.
Tier-Aware History + Sync Hardening
Period selectors landed across the dashboard. The Spending Heatmap zooms 30 days, 3 months, 6 months, 12 months, or all time (Lifetime). Search and Categories pick up the same treatment, with period pills tagging the filters your tier doesn't unlock so you always see what's one step up.
Net Worth went automatic: Pro and Lifetime get monthly snapshots saved the first time you visit each new month. Lifetime users can save daily, so you can track a big financial moment the day it happens.
Deep Dive computes from your real transactions now (velocity, hours-of-work, compound cost, monthly scorecard) and uses your FIRE portfolio choice for compound projections — one setting, two tabs.
Encrypted-sync got hardened in the same release: a sign-in overlay explains what's happening during the brief encrypted unlock instead of leaving you on a blank screen, concurrent edits across devices resolve cleanly, and you can now download a decrypted backup from Settings as a safety net if you ever forget your password.
The AI chat went from a simple Q&A box to something genuinely powerful. Store your API key per-provider — switch between Claude, ChatGPT, and Gemini without re-entering credentials. Attach a photo of a receipt or statement and ask the AI about it directly (all three providers support vision). A reasoning effort selector lets you trade speed for thoroughness: Quick for fast answers, Deep when you want the AI to really think it through.
Responses now include clickable citations — tap a dollar figure or category name to jump straight to the underlying transactions. When the AI calls for a chart or a suggested action, it renders inline inside the response. A live token and cost meter shows exactly what each conversation costs, with prompt caching cutting the cost of follow-up messages to around 20% on Claude and ChatGPT. A soft daily cap and an anonymise toggle give you full control over how much you share.
Trust, Clarity & Completeness
A precision pass to make your data feel airtight. Before you import a file, you can now choose the account type and set a nickname — no more reclassifying after the fact. Colour-coded staleness dots tell you at a glance which accounts need a refresh: green is current, amber is getting old, red is overdue. Expand any account card to see a month-by-month coverage timeline, so you know exactly where your data is and isn't.
Tap the paperclip on any transaction in Search to see the exact file it came from. Rules now show a preview of affected transactions before you apply them, with an option to apply only to new transactions going forward.
First impressions matter. Comma now greets you with a proper entry experience — five identity-aware interstitials that set the scene before you dive in. If you arrived via a link from the marketing site, your region is detected automatically and locale setup happens without you lifting a finger. Card glow, view crossfades, and staggered entrance animations make the whole thing feel considered. From sign-in, uploading a CSV takes you straight to the All Accounts tab where it belongs.
The most-used part of Comma got a full rebuild. Drag a CSV from anywhere in the app — the uploader catches it. Before anything is committed, a preview modal shows you exactly what's new versus what's already in your data. The new All Accounts tab is your command centre: manage imports, undo them, merge accounts that came in under different labels, and spot date gaps the moment they appear.
Re-uploading an overlapping statement only adds what's new. PDFs and Excel files are politely rejected with instructions on how to export a proper CSV. UTF-16 and BOM-encoded files now decode correctly. Rows with unparseable dates are surfaced rather than silently dropped.
A thorough internal audit across 12 sessions, resolving 410+ issues accumulated since launch. Financial figures now format consistently across 200+ display sites in the app. Over 800 hardcoded colour values were replaced with design tokens, bringing the codebase in line with the design system. Typography and spacing were standardised around DM Mono throughout. Cross-browser and mobile rendering issues were corrected across the board.
Your Data is Now Encrypted at Rest
Even when your data is sitting in your browser's storage, it's now fully encrypted. Walk away from your computer, and your finances are locked behind your password. A new lock screen with an animated Comma Spark greets you when your session expires — enter your password to pick up where you left off. Sign out, and everything is wiped clean.
The Most Intelligent Spending View Ever Built
We rebuilt the spending heatmap from scratch with 5 industry firsts. Every day is now a stacked bar showing exactly where your money went by category. Comma predicts the next 14 days based on your patterns. Payday, bill days, and splurge days are labelled automatically. Days you didn't spend anything glow green and chain together to show your discipline streaks. And a heartbeat-style EKG line pulses across the top, showing your spending rhythm over time.
The Trend tab got a complete visual overhaul. A new income vs spending chart makes your surplus gap immediately obvious. Every key metric now has a sparkline showing direction at a glance — are things getting better or worse? Top spending categories appear as proportional bars so you can see where the money's going without reading a single number.
Help Right Where You Need It
Hit the ? button on any screen and a help panel slides in with answers specific to the tab you're on. Screenshots, step-by-step guides, and tier badges so you know what's available on your plan. Need to reach us? A built-in contact form sends straight to our inbox — no hunting for an email address.
Gambling Tracking Gets Serious About Venues
Online betting is only half the picture. This update adds detection for cash withdrawn at gambling venues — RSL clubs, casinos, pokies venues, TABs, and more. 341 venue patterns across Australia, UK, US, New Zealand, and Canada. The total now includes what you spent online AND what you withdrew at the venue. Because the honest number is the one that matters. You can dismiss any false positive per-venue.
Your Finances Talk to Each Other Now
Comma's new Financial Nervous System connects insights across every tab. When your Spark health state changes, a diagnosis chain tells you exactly why — "Your savings rate dropped because groceries spiked 40% this month." A notification bell surfaces the most important changes, and the new "Spark says" block on your dashboard tells you what to pay attention to right now.
Watch Your Money Flow in Real Time
An industry first. Your income flows in from the left, splits into spending categories, and merges into a surplus stream on the right — all as a live, animated diagram. Drag a slider to change a number and watch every flow reshape instantly. Scenario cards let you preview changes before you commit. It's the most intuitive way to understand where your money actually goes.
Goals That Tell You the Truth
Most apps show a progress bar that says "63% saved." But are you actually going to make it? Comma now calculates the statistical probability you'll reach each goal, based on your income patterns and spending trends. Two rings per goal — one shows progress, one shows confidence. It's the difference between hope and a real answer.
The biggest update in Comma's history. 20 draggable widgets you can arrange however you want. Three presets — Essentials for a quick glance, Full for detail lovers, Power for the data-obsessed. Drag from the panel, resize, snap into place. Plus a new monthly report that gives you a 0-100 financial score with badges, and a full export tab for downloading your data as CSV, spreadsheet, or PDF. All processed on your device.
Subscription Intelligence
An orbital view of every recurring payment, auto-matched against 87 brand logos. Comma now detects silent price increases between billing cycles and flags subscriptions that overlap in function — do you really need three streaming services? Cost-per-use ratings show which subscriptions you're actually getting value from, and which are quietly draining your account.
Tax Intelligence Across 5 Countries
Five full tax engines — Australia, UK, US, New Zealand, and Canada. See your tax bracket visualised as an animated bar. Use the World Salary Map to compare your income across countries, adjusted for purchasing power. Thinking about relocating? The Relocate solver shows your take-home pay side-by-side in any two countries. Connected deductions track tax-relevant spending from your actual transactions.
Everything Now Talks to Everything
A cohesion pass that connected 17 tabs with 44 cross-links. Tap an insight about your spending and it takes you to the category breakdown. Your savings rate links to your goals. Your gambling data links to your health score. Every screen now shows related screens with live data previews, so you're always one tap from the context you need.
Your Net Worth as a Living Landscape
Your net worth is no longer just a number — it's a world. A terrain that evolves as your wealth grows, from barren desert through grasslands and forests to snow-capped mountain peaks. Fireflies drift through the forest biome. Snow falls on the peaks. It's a visual metaphor that makes the abstract feel real and gives you something to grow towards.
A Gambling Tracker That Actually Helps
Completely rebuilt as a three-act scroll experience. Act one shows your gambling frequency on a calendar heatmap. Act two holds up a mirror — session timelines that flag chasing behaviour, and what that money could have bought instead. Act three shows two futures diverging over 1 to 20 years: your finances with gambling, and without. The entire tracker is free on all plans. Encrypted on your device. No one sees this but you.
Financial Health, Made Visual
A heartbeat-style pulse that shows your financial health at a glance — green when things are good, red when they're not. 19 insight templates surface what matters, from your savings velocity to seasonal spending patterns. Country-specific cards adapt to where you live: Medicare levy surcharge in Australia, National Insurance in the UK, HSA eligibility in the US, ACC levies in New Zealand.
A cleaner settings page with a config health bar showing how much of Comma you've set up. Scroll through sections with a sliding indicator. Country selection with real flags. AI connections show at a glance whether Claude, GPT, or Gemini is connected. Gambling helpline numbers adapt to your country. Full keyboard navigation for accessibility.
Know Exactly When You Can Stop Working
Four flavours of Financial Independence: Traditional, Lean, Coast, and Barista FIRE — all calculated from your actual bank data, not hypotheticals. Drag a slider to change your retirement age and watch the projections update instantly. 500 simulated scenarios across conservative, balanced, and growth portfolios show you the range of outcomes. Retirement vehicles adapt to your country — Super in Australia, 401k in the US, KiwiSaver in New Zealand.
Smoother Navigation, Fewer Bugs
The mobile navigation got a proper fix — five tabs that work consistently on every device. Empty tabs now show showcase previews of what you'll see once you add data, instead of a blank screen. A new Account Manager keeps your accounts organised. Plus a sweep of 10 bugs that were quietly annoying people.
Track up to 8 account types: everyday, savings, credit card, offset, joint, investment, loan, and other. Comma automatically detects transfers between your own accounts so you don't double-count. Credit cards and savings accounts get their own dedicated pages with tailored analytics. See everything together or drill into one account at a time.
The Comma Spark — the animated pulse that reflects your financial health — got smoother, faster, and more expressive. Scrub through time to see how your health changed. The animation snaps back when you release. Subtle gradient improvements make it feel more alive. It's still one glance to know where you stand.
Your Profile, Your Identity
Comma now greets you by name. Set your first name and avatar (encrypted like everything else). A new account menu gives you quick access to settings, plan details, and sign-out. Your welcome email arrives via our new email system. The header adapts to your Spark state — green when you're thriving, amber when things are tight.
AI Chat — Bring Your Own Key
Ask questions about your finances in plain language. Choose Claude, GPT, or Gemini — bring your own API key, and your browser talks directly to the AI provider. We're never in the middle. Your prompts, your responses, your data — none of it passes through our servers. Plus a Cmd+K command palette for keyboard-first navigation with fuzzy search.
Comma launched in 5 countries — Australia, United Kingdom, United States, New Zealand, and Canada. 56 bank CSV formats supported. Prices localised per country. Payments handled by Stripe so your card details never touch our servers.
Introducing Comma Spark — a living indicator that reflects your financial health. Five states from Thriving to Flatline, with the colour, speed, and size changing in real time. The new Home Command Centre puts your key metrics front and centre. One glance, and you know exactly where you stand.
A Better First Experience
A new onboarding flow guides you through your first CSV upload, categorisation, and dashboard setup. The navigation was restructured into clear groups — Home, Spending, Planning, and Wellbeing — so everything has a logical home. Mobile got a proper tab bar.
A thorough security pass. Strict browser policies lock down what can run alongside Comma. Protection against cross-site attacks. Secure session handling. Rate limiting on sign-in to prevent brute-force attempts. Every recommendation from our security audit, implemented.
Payments are live. Choose Free (full dashboard, current month), Pro (12 months of history, trends, goals, AI chat), or Lifetime (everything, forever, including all future features). One payment. No subscriptions. No recurring charges. A celebration animation plays when you upgrade — because you deserve it.
Your Data, Encrypted and Synced
Sign up, set a password, and your data is encrypted in your browser before it ever touches our servers. Log in on another device and everything decrypts locally. We store your data — we just can't read it. If you lose your password, we can't recover your data, because that's the whole point.
The First Complete Version
Everything that makes Comma what it is — spending categories, income tracking, budgets, savings goals, net worth snapshots, a FIRE calculator, and gambling spend tracking. Drop in a CSV from your bank and watch everything light up. Dark theme. 15 bank formats. Built by one person who needed this to exist.
Track your net worth over time with manual snapshots. Separate your assets from your liabilities. A growth chart shows the trajectory. Simple, honest, yours.
Goals and Smarter Merchants
Set savings goals and track your progress. Recategorise a merchant once and Comma remembers it for every future import. The app starts learning your patterns.
CSV Upload and Bank Detection
Drag and drop a CSV from your bank. Comma detects the format automatically — no configuration, no column mapping for supported banks. First supported: CommBank, ANZ, NAB, and Westpac.
The merchant matching engine that powers automatic categorisation shipped — the foundation everything else builds on.
The very beginning. Project scaffolding, basic CSV parsing, category definitions, and the dark theme that would become Comma's signature. Every journey starts somewhere.
