Terms of Use

These Terms of Use (“Terms”) govern your access to and use of the Comma application and website at https://comma.finance (“Service”), operated by Comma App Pty Ltd (ABN 21 696 227 746, ACN 696 227 746, “we,” “our,” or “us”).

By using the Service, you agree to these Terms. If you do not agree, do not use the Service.

1. The Service

Comma is a personal finance application that helps you understand your spending, tax planning, retirement projections, wealth, and gambling activity. You import data via CSV files exported from your bank. Your password never leaves your browser — your transaction data is encrypted with AES-256-GCM by a key only you hold, before any data reaches our servers. 2. Eligibility

You must be at least 18 years old to use the Service. By using the Service, you represent that you meet this requirement.

3. Accounts

You may create an account using your email address. You are responsible for:

  • Maintaining the security of your account credentials and password
  • All activity that occurs under your account
  • Notifying us at hello@comma.finance if you suspect unauthorised access

We cannot recover your password — if you lose it, your encrypted data cannot be decrypted. This is a deliberate design choice, not a flaw. A recovery path is also a breach path.

4. Pricing and Payment

Comma offers three tiers, all one-time purchases (no subscriptions):

  • Free — full dashboard, all tabs, 30 days of transaction history
  • Pro — from $99 USD / $149 AUD / £79 GBP / $129 CAD / $149 NZD (one-time)
  • Lifetime — from $199 USD / $299 AUD / £149 GBP / $249 CAD / $279 NZD (one-time)

Pricing is localised — you are charged in your local currency where available. Payments are processed by Stripe, Inc. All prices include applicable taxes where required by law.

Refunds: Refunds are available within 30 days of purchase, no questions asked. Email hello@comma.finance to request a refund.

5. Your Data

You own your data. Your password never leaves your browser, and your transaction data is encrypted with a key derived from your password before being stored. The server holds encrypted blobs only — your financial details are unreadable without your password.

You can:

  • Export all your data at any time via Settings → Export, in CSV, XLSX, or PDF format
  • Delete your account and associated data at any time via Settings → Account → Delete Account
  • Receive a copy of your data on request to hello@comma.finance (provided within 30 days)

We do not sell, rent, or trade your data. See the Privacy Policy for full details.

6. Acceptable Use

You agree not to:

  • Use the Service for any unlawful purpose
  • Attempt to reverse-engineer, decompile, or otherwise tamper with the encryption, or attempt to access other users’ data
  • Upload malicious files or attempt to compromise the Service
  • Resell, sublicense, or redistribute the Service without our express written consent
  • Use automated means to access the Service in a way that imposes an unreasonable load on our infrastructure

7. Disclaimers

To the maximum extent permitted by law, the Service is provided “as is” and “as available” without warranties of any kind, express or implied, including without limitation warranties of merchantability, fitness for a particular purpose, and non-infringement.

Comma is a financial tracking tool. We are not financial advisors. We do not provide financial, tax, investment, legal, or gambling advice. The information generated by the Service is for informational and educational purposes only. Always consult a qualified professional before making financial decisions.

Australian Consumer Law. Nothing in these Terms excludes, restricts, or modifies any consumer guarantee, right, or remedy conferred by the Australian Consumer Law (Schedule 2 to the Competition and Consumer Act 2010 (Cth)) or any other applicable law that cannot lawfully be excluded, restricted, or modified.

8. Limitation of Liability

To the maximum extent permitted by law, Comma App Pty Ltd, its directors, officers, employees, and contractors shall not be liable for any indirect, incidental, special, consequential, or punitive damages arising from or related to your use of the Service, including but not limited to loss of data, loss of profits, or business interruption.

This clause does not limit any liability that cannot be limited by law (including under the Australian Consumer Law). Where our liability cannot be excluded but can be limited, our total liability is capped at the amount you have paid Comma in the previous 12 months (or AUD $0 if you are a free-tier user).

9. Gambling Tracker

The gambling tracking feature is provided for informational purposes only. It is not a diagnostic, therapeutic, or harm-reduction tool, and it does not replace professional advice or treatment.

10. Service Changes and Availability

We may add, change, or remove features at any time. We will use reasonable efforts to notify you of material changes. The Service may occasionally be unavailable for maintenance, upgrades, or due to circumstances beyond our control. We are not liable for any inconvenience or loss caused by temporary unavailability.

11. Termination

We may suspend or terminate your account if you breach these Terms or if we are required to do so by law. Where reasonable and lawful, we will give you notice and an opportunity to remedy any breach.

You may terminate your account at any time via Settings → Account → Delete Account. On termination, your encrypted data is removed within 30 days, in accordance with the Privacy Policy.

12. Changes to These Terms

We may update these Terms from time to time. Material changes will be communicated via email at least 30 days before they take effect. Non-material changes (clarifications, formatting, contact updates) will be posted to this page with an updated Effective Date. Continued use of the Service after the effective date of any change constitutes acceptance of the updated Terms.

13. Governing Law and Jurisdiction

These Terms are governed by the laws of the State of Victoria, Australia. You and Comma submit to the exclusive jurisdiction of the courts of Victoria, Australia, for the resolution of any dispute arising from or related to these Terms or the Service, except that nothing in this clause prevents you from exercising any consumer right or remedy in your local jurisdiction that cannot lawfully be excluded.

14. Severability

If any provision of these Terms is found by a court of competent jurisdiction to be invalid, illegal, or unenforceable, that provision shall be modified to the minimum extent necessary to make it valid and enforceable, or, if it cannot be so modified, severed from these Terms; the remaining provisions shall remain in full force and effect.

15. Entire Agreement

These Terms, together with our Privacy Policy, constitute the entire agreement between you and Comma regarding your use of the Service and supersede any prior agreements between you and us regarding the Service.
