What is Comma?

Comma is a private finance system that helps you understand your spending, tax, retirement, wealth, and gambling activity. Your password never leaves your browser — your data is encrypted with a key only you hold, and the server stores encrypted blobs that no one (including us) can decrypt without your password.

How do I get started?

Sign up free at app.comma.finance. After signup, a 3-step wizard walks you through choosing your locale, dropping your bank's CSV, and landing on your dashboard. Comma supports 56 bank formats across 5 countries.

Which banks are supported?

Comma supports CSV exports from 56 bank formats across Australia, UK, USA, Canada, and New Zealand — including CommBank, ANZ, NAB, Westpac, Monzo, Starling, Barclays, Chase, Amex, and more.

Do you connect to my bank?

No. Comma never connects to your bank. You export a CSV file from your bank and upload it manually. This is a deliberate privacy decision — no third party ever sees your transactions.

Is my data private?

Yes. Your password never leaves your browser. Your financial data is encrypted with AES-256-GCM by a key derived from your password — the server holds encrypted blobs only, and your transactions, categories, goals, and balances are unreadable without your password. No open banking. No bank logins. No third-party access.

How much does Comma cost?

Is there really no subscription?

Correct. Comma is a one-time purchase. No monthly fees. No yearly renewals. Pay once, use forever.

Do you offer refunds?

What payment methods do you accept?

We accept credit cards and debit cards via Stripe. All payments are processed securely.

What currencies do you accept?

Pricing is displayed in AUD but we accept payments in most major currencies. Your bank handles the conversion.

What is the spending heatmap?

What is the gambling tracker?

Comma's gambling tracker identifies online betting and venue-based gambling across 341 patterns in 5 countries. It's completely free for all users, forever. All data stays encrypted on your device.

What is the FIRE dashboard?

The FIRE (Financial Independence, Retire Early) dashboard uses Monte Carlo simulations to project your retirement timeline. It supports 4 FIRE variants with a retire-at-age slider using your actual numbers.

Can I export my data?

Yes. You can export all your data at any time. You can also delete all your data at any time. You own your data completely.

How does the encryption work?

Your password never leaves your browser. We use Argon2id to derive an authentication token from your password locally — only the derived token reaches our servers (and we then bcrypt-hash it again). Your financial data is encrypted with AES-256-GCM by a separate key, also derived from your password and never transmitted. The server stores encrypted blobs only — without your password, the data is computationally infeasible to decrypt.

Do you use open banking APIs?

No. Comma deliberately avoids open banking. You manually export CSV files from your bank. This means no third party ever has continuous access to your accounts.

What platforms does Comma support?

Comma is a web application that works in any modern browser on desktop and mobile. No app installation required.

Can I delete my account?

Yes. You can delete your account and all associated data at any time from your account settings. This action is irreversible.
